Every Student Succeeds Act - Military Opt-Out Form

Posted Date: 10/05/26 (07:00 PM)

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Every Student Succeeds Act requires that secondary schools provide certain student information to military recruiters.  Specifically, the law requires school districts to disclose, “upon request,” the names, addresses, year of birth, level of education, and telephone listings of high school students to military recruiters and institutions of higher learning. However, there is a provision of the law that allows parents/guardians and students to request that such information not be released without their prior written consent.

At this time, we have such a request for student information described above.   Parents/Guardians of students wishing to exercise their option to withhold such information, must sign and return the attached form to the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Main Office no later than Friday, October 19, 2026.  Otherwise directory information will be released in November as requested.

If you have any questions regarding the above, please feel free to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Joseph M. Agosta

Principal
