First Graders Explore Nature Through Hands-On Art

First grade students in Ms. Hill’s art classes at Deauville Gardens East and Deauville Gardens West Elementary Schools are celebrating creativity and nature through a hands-on “hand tree” art project, inspired by the beauty of the natural world and in recognition of Earth Day on April 22.
During the lesson, students learned how artists often draw inspiration from nature before creating their own colorful, mixed media tree designs. Using their traced hands as the trunk of the tree, first graders built imaginative works of art filled with vibrant patterns and creative details that reflect their individuality.
The project allowed students to explore texture, color and design while also making meaningful connections between art and the environment. By combining artistic expression with environmental inspiration, they created unique pieces that highlight both creativity and an appreciation for the natural world around them.
