Fourth Graders Research African American Trailblazers

In recognition of Black History Month, fourth graders at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School conducted research on influential African American figures. After brainstorming a list of individuals, including athletes, musicians, pop stars, scientists and activists, students selected one person to focus their research on.
Using both online resources and texts, students chose to create either a Google Slides presentation, Canva project, poster or informational sheet about their chosen figure.
They researched and wrote about their subject’s early life, adult life, rise to fame, accomplishments and meaningful quotes. The project concluded with students presenting their work to their peers, helping build research, writing, public speaking and digital literacy skills.
