Great Neck Road Witnesses Water Cycle in Action

Second graders at Great Neck Road Elementary School are studying the water cycle as part of their science curriculum. The students are observing its stages in action through two different experiments.
To begin, classes watched a demonstration of the water cycle using a bowl covered in plastic wrap. The students observed how water evaporates into the bowl, condenses on the plastic wrap and drips down as “rain” into a cup. In their second experiment, they learned how water evaporates and condenses inside a bag. Second graders keep a journal of the changes they observe in the experiments. To apply what they have learned about evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection, students then created paper models of the water cycle.
