Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School students enrolled in the 20th century history elective are currently studying the United States Civil Rights Movement. In this cross-curricular lesson, they were asked to analyze a poem. The class connected stanzas to the actions and lives of lesser-known African Americans in history, expanding their literacy skills.
