Copiague School District recognized the hard work and dedication of the members of its board of education prior to the Oct. 21 meeting. The New York State School Board Association designates the week of Oct. 21-25 as School Board Recognition Week.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Bannon thanked the board for their tireless work to benefit the students of Copiague. Members of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School’s Madrigal Choir performed two songs for the board, “Attention” by Charlie Puth and “La Bamba,” by Ritchie Valens complete with a dance sequence.

The Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Art Honor Society designed a mural gifted to the members of the board to hang in the conference room. The PTA Council provided refreshments for the evening and the Copiague Teaching Aides and Assistants made a donations to the Brittney Walsh Memorial Scholarship in the board’s name. 

The Copiague Teachers Association donated to Circle of Love and the local food pantry for their Thanksgiving outreach on behalf of the board. The Copiague Supervisors donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Copiague Association of Principals gave a donation to Friends of Karen, an organization which benefits children with cancer or other life-threatening diseases.
