Copiague Middle School students Kiara Bennett and Nicole Hernandez recently presented their mathematics research at the Al Kalfus Long Island Math Fair at Suffolk Community College. They attended the fair’s preliminary round with adviser Stephen Temme.

To participate in the fair, students were required to write a properly cited eight- to 10-page research paper on a mathematical topic of their choice and orally present their research to a panel of judges. Students selected their topics earlier in the school year and gathered information from multiple sources. They also created poster boards that demonstrated the main concepts of their research.

Bennett researched Codes and Ciphers, while Hernandez studied Infinity in Math. Upon presenting to the judges, Hernandez’s project qualified her to advance to the final round, which will be held at Hofstra University on April 15.

Congratulations to these students on their hard work and participation in this elite competition.
