As part of their social studies curriculum, fourth graders in Mr. Thompson and Ms. Hagan’s class at Great Neck Road Elementary School are learning about Native American tribes of New York. The fourth graders recently studied the five groups of the Iroquois Confederacy. Working in small groups, the students researched one of the tribes and learned about their lives – including transportation, housing, food sources, clothing and religion – and created posters filled with facts. The students then shared their posters with the class to highlight the tribes’ similarities and differences.
