Young Engineers Test Bridge Designs at Middle School

Teacher Showing Students Bring Architecture thumbnail216776

Seventh and eighth grade technology students at Copiague Middle School are honing their architectural and engineering skills as they design and build their own bridges. Starting by sketching a blueprint of their design using Google Sketch, the students worked in pairs to assembly the pieces of their wooden bridge.

Students were tasked with creating the lightest bridge possible that can hold the most weight. Once the bridges are fully assembled, they will be tested by attaching a bucket of sand, which will slowly increase in weight until the bridge collapses.
