During their reader’s workshop, the students in Ms. Spizuco’s fourth grade class at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School studied different memoirs. In particular, the students learned about author Lois Ehlert and the inspiration for her artwork and illustrations in her books. Ehlert only uses scraps and items she can find around the house or outdoors and creates her art using only scraps. As an extra credit project, students made their own artwork or projects using scrap items they collected.
