Students in Ms. Sudano’s second grade class at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School are learning about holidays around the world. The students each created suitcases to hold all of their materials as they “travel” around the world in each lesson.

Their journey began with a plane ticket and a flight to the country using Google Earth. The students located the country on a world map and explored what it looks like. They read about the country, the culture and how they celebrate the holidays and wrote down facts about what they learned.

Following each visit, the students get a stamp on their passport before visiting the next country. Students have learned about Diwali, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year and Christmas in Mexico, Italy, Germany, Australia and France.
