Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Student Council members and leaders, along with adviser Cheryl Feldman, painted and decorated flowerpots and filled them with a variety of spring seed packets as a way to remind local senior citizens they are never forgotten.

“We wanted to share some springtime sunshine with loving members of our schools community,” Ms. Feldman said. “The students purchased their own supplies and used their own artistic expression to make a spring flowerpot adorned with inspirational words and springtime painted pictures. We knew so many of our elderly community members were feeling isolated and alone due to restrictions enforced during the pandemic. As a student council, we felt it was important to show our seniors that they are never forgotten.”

The flowerpots were delivered to The Dominican Village Assisted Living Facility in North Amityville and will be distributed to the residents who live there. Student council members are happy to serve the community in creative ways and eager to bring joy to the lives of others.
