Forty-nine new members from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School were inducted into the Isabella M. Driscoll Chapter of the National Honor Society during a virtual ceremony on April 29. They were joined online by administrators, board of education members, family and friends.

To be inducted into the National Honor Society, students must exhibit the society’s four pillars: scholarship, leadership, service and character. The four National Honor Society officers – Kiran Ahmad, Joseph Falco, Paris DeFreitas and Klara Thelusma – spoke about each of the pillars and their importance.

The evening’s guest speaker, John Young, high school science teacher, gave the students some words of advice as they begin the next stage of their academic journeys. “Remember, if you can’t do the little things in life, you will never do the big things; start my making your bed,” he said. “Your future is not determined by your current situation. Do everything to the best of your abilities and do it in a way you that will make you proud.”
