While their format was shifted this year due to social distancing restrictions, the fifth graders at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School participated in their annual wax museum on March 15.

As a culminating activity to their literacy lesson on biographies, the fifth graders researched and studied a person who has had a major impact on history and portrayed that person as a “wax” figure. Some of the categories they chose from included activists, artists, athletes, trailblazing women, founding fathers, politicians, presidents, entrepreneurs, royalty, writers and scientists.

This year, the museum went virtual as students recorded videos of themselves speaking about their chosen person. Students could either dress the part of their famous person or create an artistic bottle person modeled after the likes of their subject.

In each of the videos, students spoke about interesting facts about the famous person’s life and why they are important to history.
