Third graders at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School participated in the Mitten Project, facilitated by the New York State Distance Learning Consortium. Students in Mrs. Byrnes’ and Mrs. Kelly’s classes completed an author study of Jan Brett, read “The Mitten,” researched the different animals in the story, and wrote clues about the animal they chose to hide in their mitten. Classmates in person and online had to guess which animal was hidden in each mitten using the clues.
