Fifth grade students at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School are building their mathematical skills by learning how to divide fractions.

Throughout the unit, students explored situations that involved dividing a fraction by a whole number as well as dividing a whole number by a fraction. By working through a variety of problem types, they are developing a deeper understanding of how division applies to fractional values. 
To strengthen their grasp of the concept, students partnered with one another and used hands-on activities to generate and solve division equations. This collaborative approach allowed them to practice multiple strategies, explain their thinking and build confidence as they worked through each problem.
