First Graders Fall Into Learning
As part of their study of the four seasons, first graders in Ms. Mohamed’s class at Susan E. Wiley Elementary School recently explored the sights, textures and scents of pumpkins. Each student received their own to observe and record details about.
Working together, the class created a tree map describing what the pumpkins looked like, felt like and smelled like. To extend their learning, students also crafted individual sentences highlighting their favorite parts of the pumpkin. This hands-on activity blended science and writing, allowing students to practice observation skills, descriptive language and seasonal awareness in a fun and engaging way.
