The kindergartners in Mrs. Steiger's class and third graders in Mrs. Byrnes’ class at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School came together for their first character education “buddy meet up.” The visit centered around the character trait of kindness. Students listened to a read-aloud of “Each Kindness” by Jacqueline Woodson and discussed ways to show kindness and support happy feelings. Afterward, kindergartners partnered with third graders for a game that helped them connect with a new buddy. Once paired, the buddies practiced different ways to say hello, created unique handshakes and illustrated pictures of themselves together. The activity not only encouraged friendship but also reinforced the importance of building a caring and supportive school community.
