The third graders in Ms. Mullins’ class at Great Neck Road Elementary School worked collaboratively during a recent mathematics lesson. To practice and reinforce their multiplication skills, the third graders created snowman chains to show their understanding of skip counting. They had to work cooperatively with a team and check each other’s work to assemble their snowman. Each group was given a number to skip count, and each student in the group had to use skip counting to write their numbers on a chain. When they were complete, the paper chain pieces were connected together to create one big snowman. All the chains were displayed on the interactive bulletin board outside the second grade wing to inspire their mathematics lessons.
