Students in Colleen Gurtner’s leadership class at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School were recently presented with the gold award from Junior Achievement for their work with the High School Heroes program. The leadership class worked with students at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School last year. The High School Heroes is a service-learning and leadership development program for high school students to teach the Junior Achievement curriculum to elementary students.
