The National PTA has recognized Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School and its PTSA as a 2022-2024 School of Excellence for its accomplishments in building a strong, effective family-school partnership that is enriching the educational experience and overall well-being for students. “We are thrilled to honor the accomplishments of Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School and its PTSA,” said Yvonne Johnson, president of National PTA. “Their work to strengthen their family-school partnership has created an environment where families feel welcomed, included and empowered to support their child’s success and where students feel safe, supported and ready to learn, which is more important than ever.” National PTA’s School of Excellence program is a year-long commitment to strengthening family-school partnerships. Throughout the year, PTAs and schools collect feedback from their school communities to create and implement plans of action to improve family engagement and make a difference for every child. Through the School of Excellence program, PTAs and families become key partners in decision-making and school improvement efforts. “Family engagement and school partnerships are the foundation for a thriving community,” said Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School PTSA president Mary Sotomayor. “PTSA is not just about bake sales and fundraisers; it’s about cultivating an environment where every child blossoms, every teacher thrives, and every parent finds a sense of belonging.” National PTA presented Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School and its PTSA with a certificate and a National PTA School of Excellence banner to hang in their school. Date Added: 8/15/2023
