The Performing Arts

Elementary

All elementary students in Copiague receive General Music classes weekly, starting in Kindergarten and continuing through 5th grade.  Our mission is to expose students to a life-long love for music through active participation, exposure to diverse cultures, movement, performance, literacy, interpretation, and analyzation of works.

Performing ensemble inclusion begins for all students by 4th grade.  Students are recruited and tested during the end of the school year prior.  Instrumental students are then broken into small lesson groups based on instrumentation and ability. Groups meet once a week on a rotating basis.  Ensemble rehearsals, or “Band”, also meet once a week.  By the end of their elementary experience, many students participate in the annual Spring NYSSMA Solo Festival.

Chorus begins in 3rd grade with interested students committing to the program by attending weekly rehearsals and working on their developing technique.

Our elementary programs are featured in Winter and Spring Concerts, The Fine Arts Festival, Memorial Day Parade, and in many varied events throughout the school year within their buildings.
