Via a long-distance learning activity, second-grade students in Maryanne Basso’s class at Susan E. Wiley worked hard to try to save a turkey from being eaten on Thanksgiving on Nov. 16.

The students teamed up with another second-grade class in New York State via video conference. Each class had to disguise turkeys to save them from being eaten on Thanksgiving. The two classes took turns playing a game of 20 questions, trying to guess which turkey from a bingo card was the turkey that was being “saved.” Students learned about map skills, writing and communication as they prepared for the video conference. They also shared information about their community and learned about the community on the video conference.
