To commemorate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Booster Club presented a plaque of recognition to Sherranda Rush, a district staff member and longtime supporter of the students in Copiague.

Known affectionately as “Ms. Sam” to students, she has worked as a security guard for the district since 2006. During the past 10 years, Rush has built a strong rapport and relationship with the students and families. Through her personal contributions, Rush has supplied funds to help students attend prom. In addition, she has been an instrumental part in fundraising for the Security Department Scholarship that is awarded each year in memory of former Copiague Security Director, Mr. Corey Swinson.

Recognized for her many years of dedicated service and contributions to the students of the Copiague community, Rush was honored during a halftime presentation of a girls’ varsity basketball game in February.
