English as a New Language learners at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School are hard at work on their literacy and speaking skills.

In Ms. Barbarino’s class, students just finished reading “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. Students participated in a reader’s theater version of the story. Students also completed a project in which they created a final act for the play since it ends on a cliffhanger. Students presented their plays to the class. In Mr. Marcenaro’s class, students are making presentations on simple past tenses of verbs.

The students in Ms. Giamundo’s class designed their own menus and created conversations mimicking food orders in a restaurant. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the students in Ms. Abreu’s class students discussed positive affirmations through grammar and speaking activities. Students completed an activity on love and positivity and created a heart that they wrote positive words for each of their classmates.
