The third graders in Ms. McKenna’s class and Ms. Falcone’s class at Deauville Gardens East Elementary School celebrated Black History Month in February by learning about Dr. Martin King Jr.

Students read and discussed different articles about Dr. King. They talked not only about his accomplishments, but also the hardships he faced in life that inspired his work. Based on their research, students determined character traits that best described Dr. King. They included characteristics such as determined, caring, loving, fair, intelligent, creative and hard working.

Each student chose one trait and wrote it multiple times to fill in a large piece of poster. When all the poster pieces were put together, they created a poster of words that best described Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
