As part of a hands-on STEM activity, the second graders at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School designed their own snowflakes. The classes first read “Snowflake Bentley,” a book that tells the story of the first snowflake photographer. Students were then tasked with creating their own snowflakes based off a design sketch using marshmallows, toothpicks or straws. After creating their unique snowflakes, students wrote about how they could improve their designs.
