Kindergarten students in Ms. Bergen’s class at Susan E. Wiley Elementary School are learning all about the different parts of the plant. The class created a brace map to learn about the different parts and each student made their own poster labeling each part of the plant and its function. As a culminating activity, the students participated in a plant tasting party on June 8. They learned that all different parts of the plant – roots, stems, seeds, flowers and leaves – are edible in certain plants as they taste tested lettuce, carrots, radishes, broccoli, celery, cucumbers, peas and more.
