Testing their design and engineering skills this summer, the fifth graders in the district’s elementary summer program took to the fields outside of Deauville Gardens West Elementary School to launch their bottle rockets on July 28. The students created their rockets using their knowledge of the laws of gravity. With two-liter soda bottles, salt, water and an air pump, they each tested their design during the launch process. Students learned about the forces of gravity and motion and aerodynamic design while also testing air pressure and how it would affect how far their rockets would travel.
