Students become eligible for Special Services programs only after approval by the district's Committee on Special Education (CSE). Students suspected of needing any of these services should be referred to the Building Pupil Study Team (BPST). Students are placed in special education programs when the nature or severity of their disability is such that education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot be achieved satisfactorily. To the maximum extent appropriate, students will be educated with their non-disabled peers, as assigned by the CSE.

The resource room program supplements the regular education program of the students serviced. Each student in the RR program receives CSE mandated instruction at least three hours per week but not more than 50% of the school day. Resource room teachers communicate regularly with general education teachers and parents to assess student strengths, areas of weakness, accommodations, modifications, supplementary aids/materials and assessments.

The developmental learning classes are designed to meet the academic and social needs of students who are deemed by the CSE to be in need of a greater level of structure and support than a resource room provides. The criterion for placement is determined by the CSE. Developmental learning classes are designed to access general education curriculum, provide individualized instruction in a self-contained setting and prepare students for all state assessments. Special education teachers communicate regularly with parents, guidance, and general education teachers about progress or concerns.

Related services such as speech, adaptive physical education, occupational therapy and physical therapy are available at the recommendation of the CSE.

Transitional support services are available to all students and provided by special educators when declassification or a less restrictive environment is recommended by the CSE.
