Copiague School District recognized the hard work and dedication of the members of its board of education prior to the Oct. 22 meeting. The New York State School Board Association designates the week of Oct. 22-26 as School Board Recognition Week.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Bannon thanked the board for their tireless work to benefit the students of Copiague. Members of the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School’s Madrigal Choir performed two songs for the board.

The Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Honor Society designed a mural gifted to the members of the board to hang in the conference room. The PTA Council provided refreshments for the evening and both the Copiague Teaching Assistants and PTA Council made donations to the Britteny Walsh Memorial Scholarship in the board’s name.

The Copiague Supervisors and Copiague Association of Principals donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Copiague Teachers Association gave to two local food pantries for their Thanksgiving outreach on behalf of the board.

Board of Education Vice President Doris Fischer received the Board Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York State School Board Association for her participation in leadership development opportunities.
