Two students from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School were recently recognized for their academic performance. Abigail Romero was named a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar and Julia Brzozka was recognized as a Commended Student.

To be eligible as a National Hispanic Scholar, Abigail was one of approximately 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from a nationwide total of 250,000 high school juniors who took the PSAT exam and designated themselves as Hispanic.

Julia was named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional performance on the 2017 PSAT exam. Approximately 1.5 million high school students take the PSAT each year. Of those, 50,000 are Commended Students and 16,000 are chosen as National Merit Scholar Semifinalists.
