Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School’s Franklin Parra was selected in the Major League Baseball draft during the 11th round, 320th overall by the New York Mets on June 6. Franklin, a senior, was the ace of the pitching staff for the Eagles, compiling 74 strikeouts in 32 innings during the 2018 season. Franklin was ranked pre-season as low as 10 in New York State by Perfect Game, named to the 2018 Rawlings Perfect Game Pre-Season All- American team Northeast Region and was also part of Newsday’s top 100 players. With a fastball ranging 91-93, occasionally hitting 94, Franklin became an MLB prospect and was widely followed by area scouts.
