To conclude their unit on fairy tales, second-graders in Jackie Shore and Samantha LaRocco’s class at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School used their artistic ability and imagination to expand their literacy skills on Oct. 6.

After reading “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” “The Three Little Pigs” and “Cinderella,” students were tasked with taking their knowledge of the books to the next level. For “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” the students pretended to be Goldilocks and wrote an apology letter to the Three Little Bears for her actions.

For “The Three Little Pigs,” the students created wanted posters of the Big, Bad Wolf, drawing pictures and writing descriptions based on their recollection of the book. Lastly, after tracing and cutting out their handprints, students created glittery magic wands and wrote about what they would do if they had a magic wand like the fairy godmother in “Cinderella.”
