Nonfiction Study Brings Bio-Buddies to Life

Life
Second-graders at Deauville Gardens East have been learning about nonfiction texts, most recently studying biography genres.

In addition to conducting independent reading, the students were introduced to biographies on seven historical leaders. The second-graders were tasked with choosing an inspiring person to research and creating a “bio-buddy” to look like the person. They included a timeline of the person’s life, a poem inspired by Margaret Wise Brown’s “The Important Book” and facts about the person's life.
As students presented their bio-buddy to the class, classmates asked questions about how the inspirational person became famous and why they chose the person.
