Fourth-graders in Nicole Antz’s class at Deauville Gardens West spent the first week of January conducting science experiments related to how energy works.

Using the district’s new hands-on science kits, the students worked on a lesson exploring potential vs. kinetic energy using inclined planes (ramps) and marbles. They learned that the marbles at rest contain potential energy. When they are released at the top of the ramp, energy turns from potential to kinetic or energy in motion. After several experiments, the students started making connections in relation to potential and kinetic energy.
