Honoring Exceptional Seniors

Gathered in the school’s auditorium, students in the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School graduating Class of 2016 were honored for 13 years of hard work at the annual Senior Awards Ceremony.

Following a rousing rendition of the national anthem sung by Alexandra Urban, Principal Joseph Agosta afforded welcome remarks and lauded the students for their achievements and drive to success.

“I have the privilege of working with these students on a daily basis and can share with you that they are a dynamic, passionate and motivated group of unique individuals,” said Agosta. “The awards and scholarships they will receive tonight certainly support their unwavering drive for excellence every day.”

Surrounded by family and friends, as well as members of the board of education, central and high school administration and teaching staff, more than $66,000 in local, memorial and organizational scholarships were presented to deserving seniors. In addition, students were presented with the Principal’s Recognition Award and the New York State Department of Education Academic Excellence Awards.

Agosta presented the final awards of the evening to the graduating Class of 2016 top 10 students.
