In recognition of Earth Day, the first graders at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School created one-of-a-kind robots made of only of recycled materials. After learning about reducing, reusing and recycling initiatives, the students were tasked with building their own robot made of everyday recycled materials that could be found around their home. They brought the robots to school to share with classmates and they are on display in the school’s lobby to showcase their creativity.

Spring has come to life for the student-artists in Ms. Hill’s class at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School. Using all the colors of the new season, the students created tree frogs using watercolor paints. They learned all about the rainforest and created collages featuring different elements of the forest with their frogs. Fifth grade artists, inspired by works of Alma Thomas, designed mosaic landscape pieces using short brushstrokes. They also learned how to mix colors that are next to each other on the color wheel to create new ones.

Fifth graders at Deauville Gardens West Elementary School are busy preparing for the annual wax museum by conducting research on their subject’s life and creating a Google Slide presentation. Students are also preparing speeches written in the first person for their performance in June. They will dress up as their chosen subjects and deliver their speeches to the fourth graders, making the figures come to life. The fifth graders are using their knowledge from biography lessons to develop their projects. They have been using these lessons as references for their research and are excited to participate and prepare for the wax museum.
